All Saints Church New Shildon

All Saints Road, New Shildon, County Durham

Designed by J P Pritchett of Darlington and constructed by Messrs. Borrowdale, All Saints' was built to service the growing population expanding beyond the old town of Shildon as as result of industrialisation, coal-mining and the railways.

The last service was held in All Saints in 1998 and after closure, the church's condition has deteriorated ever since. In 2018, Northern Archaeological Associates completed an assessment of the fabric for the private owners of the building, with a view to conversion to alternative use. As yet, there appear to be no realistic plans to secure the building's future.

We are grateful to Lucy Jessop of Historic England for bringing All Saints' to our attention.
